The Venetian resort in Las Vegas is truly a remarkable piece of architecture.† Although everything does seem to be rather expensive at this hotel/resort/casino I still enjoyed my stay thoroughly. While I was vacationing here I decided to take in a show at their auditorium. It was the Blue Man group.

I had not really listened or researched this group prior to buying the $100 ticket, which is a strange feeling for me since whenever I shell out that type of cash for a show, I usually know every single note and beat of the bands music, but I decided to give them a chance.

The concert venue of the Venetian seats close to 2000 people. This size venue is perfect.† The acoustical sound is nice and tight.† You end up with a punchy sound just about everywhere you sit.

Although my tickets were not the best seats in the house they were certainly the best seats in the house with out having to wear a poncho. The Blue Man group like to get very messy on stage and it’s obvious with the way they create the mess that they don’t have to clean it up!

Their set was about an hr and a half long.† No opening act, which is fine for their type show.

“And what is exactly their type of show”?

I would say the Blue Man group is like watching mimes that act like they’ve just discovered music, while performing magic tricks in front of a psychedelic backdrop.

The concert was an eccentric mix of music, magic, miming and anything else that was weird for a music concert.

My favorite song of their set was a song called rods and cones in†which a visual demonstration is given to the audience about the optical illusions of the human eye and how at any given moment we are blind without knowing.† They go into the science of it during their actual† performance of the song by demonstrating it with lighting effects.

Blue Man Group – Rods And Cones

If I were to pick one thing to gripe about it would be the long periods of almost seemingly silent moments in the show. To the point where people were falling asleep. The music was definitely missing in action for about 3/5 of the show and I would prefer hearing a couple more songs in their set lists. With that being said I realized that they aren’t performing a typical show with a traditional type of performance.

In closing I’d like to say The Blueman Group is worth the $100 ticket price I paid because I was able to witness something I’ve never seen before. I’d recommended it to anyone in Vegas who wants to witness a music show different from any other show they might have seen before.
